President's Blog: Thank You! - June 2024

Thank you for your confidence in electing me to be your President.  Becoming president of any organization is an extreme honor, but serving as president of our congregation carries both symbolic and practical significance.

When my husband, Mike, and I were looking to join a synagogue in 2017, our daughter was starting Kindergarten.  We didn’t really know any Jews in the area, but it was important to our family that our two children, Hannah and Noah, would get to know and be a living part of their Jewish heritage – attend services, participate in the Jewish holidays, and learn in our religious school.  From our first meeting with some of our leaders at that time, Sara Polikov as Religious School Director and Lori Dreffin as President, we knew this was a place where we could grow and that could grow with us.  Over the past 7 years, our family has made a conscious effort to be involved and also find ways to contribute and help shape the future of our Kehillah.  Our kids are involved in the religious school and youth groups, we have tutored and chaperoned events, served on committees and have even helped install a water cooler or two.  Our journey at TKC may have started with tradition, but it has become so much more.  I wish the same for you and your family.

To that end, I urge you to find a group or a cause that interests you.  We now have active Chavurot, a growing choir with beautiful music led by Kyra Goldman our new Music Director, Movie Nights organized by Tom Bryant and Ulysses Jimenez, and a very social Sisterhood and Brotherhood that plan fun events!

Now that we have a wealth of activity happening within these walls, I would love to find ways to enjoy our surroundings to the greatest extent possible!  In 2004/2005, we saw a renovation of our temple buildings while Mark Silberman was our president.  These improvements have served us well for the last 20 years, but we have room for enhancements.  With a refresh of our social hall, a fresh coat of paint in the sanctuary, and updated, more prominent signage out front, the “best kept secret in Roswell” will have an even greater opportunity to attract new members with greater visibility in and around Roswell! Such updates may also provide us with financial growth opportunities, as many groups in the area are often seeking available spaces to rent for events.  Undoubtedly this undertaking will involve fundraising efforts and the support of our membership.  I encourage you to reach out if you have fundraising ideas or other skillsets, interests, hobbies, or organization contacts in this arena.  If these past few years have shown us anything, it’s that we are better when we come together.
